Trainer/Training Program Manager

POSITION SUMMARY:
WID’S Training and Public Education Program provides Disability Competence Trainings to diverse groups including government agencies, social service providers and corporations on topics including disability awareness and etiquette; hiring, accommodating and retaining employees with disabilities; increasing workplace diversity; and accommodating people with disabilities in disaster preparedness and relief efforts. WID's Training and Public Education Program also advises on access, compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and other civil rights laws.

DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
•    Develop training curriculum, materials and resources; organize and deliver Disability Competence Trainings for diverse groups including employers, government agencies and social service providers on topics such as:
•    General disability awareness
•    History of the disability rights movement
•    Independent Living philosophy
•    Complying with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
•    Intersection of disability and culture
•    Hiring, accommodating and retaining people with disabilities from diverse backgrounds
•    Including and accommodating people with disabilities in disaster preparedness and relief efforts
•    Coordinate American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters and the production of training and resource materials in designated alternative formats
•    Coordinate regional trainer consultants and project IT consultant
•    Produce regional disability resource materials and directories including American Sign Language (ASL) interpreters as required by funders
•    Travel in the US to deliver trainings
•    Monitor project timelines
•    Coordinate project evaluations and other communication with funding sources
•    Process invoices
•    Maintain monthly records and produce reports to funders
•    Participate in project development and sustainability activities including grantwriting

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
•    Experience conducting trainings, workshops, or other public speaking
•    Superior oral and written communication skills
•    Knowledge Familiarity with the disability community, of disability awareness and etiquette, disability rights laws including the ADA, and disaster preparedness
•    Ability to work under deadline pressure
•    Ability to manage competing priorities
•    Ability to work independently

PREFERENCES:
•    BA/BS and experience working in disability community
•    Disaster preparedness experience
•    Personal experience and/or knowledge of Independent Living and disability issues

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Executive Director

COMPENSATION: $47-$50,000 (DOE) annual base range at 75% FTE ($35,250-$37,500), plus benefits

ABOUT WID:
The World Institute on Disability (WID) is seeking a Trainer/Training Project Manager to coordinate and conduct Disability Competence Trainings for its Training and Public Education Program. WID is a nonprofit public policy center dedicated to promoting independence and full societal inclusion of people with disabilities. Currently, WID operates with a staff of 15 employees and regular volunteers and is located in downtown Oakland, California.

Founded in 1983, WID has earned a reputation for high-quality research and public education on a wide range of issues. The Board of Directors and staff, over half of whom are people with disabilities, are respected national leaders in the disability rights field as well as in industry, government, and social services, allowing WID to bring a cross-disability perspective to the policy arena.
