EQUITY Responds: WID Answers Your Questions

After reading EQUITY’s Feature article about the Low Income Housing Tax credit, how do I find these housing projects?

A good place to start is with HUD’s user friendly and intuitive LIHTC Database Access tool located online at lihtc.huduser.org/. Data are now available for projects placed in service through 2004 for all states except Louisiana.

You may also benefit from the assistance of a HUD-approved Housing Counseling Agency. A list of HUD-approved Housing Counseling Agencies is available from
www.hud.gov/offices/hsg/sfh/hcc_home.cfm or by calling toll-free 1-800-569-4287.

To locate a local LIHTC project, begin by selecting the variables you want extracted in the upper left frame. Then, select either a single State (if you want to narrow your search to a particular city or group of cities), or multiple States in the lower right. The tool allows you to search within a number of miles from the center of a selected City. Finally, narrow your search criteria, choose an output format, and extract your data.
